Can I cancel my upcoming trip to Turkey because of the coup attempt?

Last Updated:

A standard travel insurance policy will not cover you to cancel your upcoming trip to Turkey because of the attempted coup or subsequent state of emergency.

Unfortunately, while the recent coup attempt and state of emergency may cause concern about stability in the country, fear of traveling to your destination is not a covered reason to cancel your trip, unless you have Cancel For Any Reason coverage.

If your policy includes the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade, you may be able to cancel your trip to Turkey and receive reimbursement of up to 75% of your trip costs, as long as you cancel at least 2-3 days before your scheduled departure date.

If were not able to go on your trip due to the FAA ban, or if you chose to cancel your trip, contact your provider. You may be able to receive a pro-rated refund of your premium or transfer your policy for another trip.

Please refer to your policy certificate or contact your provider directly to confirm your coverage. Contact information for your provider can be found in your policy certificate or in our Claims information center.
