Can I purchase a travel insurance policy after being diagnosed with the Zika virus?

Last Updated:

If you are already infected with the Zika virus, you may purchase a travel insurance policy, however some benefits may be limited.

In order to receive Emergency Medical coverage, the policy must include coverage for Pre-Existing Medical Conditions. This benefit typically requires you to purchase a policy within 30 days of your initial trip deposit. The traveler must also be considered stable to travel at the time the policy is purchased.

If you are not eligible for pre-existing condition coverage you may still purchase a policy, however you will not be able to be reimbursed for treatment or cancellation related to the Zika virus diagnosis.

This coverage is subject to change at any time as conditions related to the Zika virus change.

This information may vary based on the travel insurance policy. If you have questions about a specific policy, please contact us directly at 800-240-0369. Our customer service representatives are available 24/7 and are delighted to help!
