Can I still buy travel insurance for the protests at Hong Kong International Airport?

Last Updated:

Unfortunately, it is too late to buy travel insurance for the Hong Kong airport protests.

Travel insurance is designed to cover unforeseen events.

The specific cutoff date for when you must purchase a policy varies by provider. For example, some providers may consider all the protests one single event. The first protest occurred on August 5, 2019. Therefore, in order for a travel insurance policy from those providers with coverage for any related events, it must have been purchased prior to August 5.

However, some providers may view the protests and airport closures as separate events. In this case, you may be covered as long as you buy the policy at least the day before your departure date.

If you are worried about traveling, a policy with Cancel For Any Reason may be available for you, depending on when you booked your trip. This benefit is only available for 14-21 days after your initial trip deposit date.

This information may vary based on the travel insurance policy. If you have questions about a specific policy, please contact us directly at 800-240-0369. Our customer service representatives are available from 8am to 10pm ET, seven days a week, and are delighted to help!
