Am I covered if my trip is delayed because of the earthquake?

Last Updated:

Short Answer

If your travel is delayed due to the earthquake, you may be covered for additional expenses during the delay if you had a policy in place before the earthquake occurred.

More Detail

Travel Delay can provide reimbursement for meals, accommodations, and local transportation when a trip is unexpectedly delayed for a minimum number of hours — typically 3, 6, or 12. To be eligible for Travel Delay coverage, you must be delayed for a covered reason, which vary by policy.

Many policies with the Travel Delay benefit can also provide reimbursement for unused, prepaid and non-refundable trip costs, and some can cover the additional costs to catch you up to your destination or to return home.

Missed Connection coverage may also be available to cover additional costs for you to catch up to your trip in the event of a missed departure. This benefit also typically requires a delay of 3, 6, or 12 hours.

If your flight or other ticketed transportation is delayed by 12-48 hours, you may be covered by the Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption benefit.
