What if I’m too scared to travel because of the church attack in France?

Short Answer

Standard travel insurance will not cover you to cancel your trip because you are afraid to travel after the attack in Normandy.

More Detail

Fear is never a covered reason to cancel. If you are traveling to Normandy, or a nearby city in the near future, you may be covered to cancel your trip if you had a policy with Terrorism coverage in place before the attack occurred on July 26.

However, if you do not meet the requirements for Terrorism coverage, you cannot cancel your trip due to fear of traveling unless you have a policy with the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade.

This upgrade allows you to cancel without providing a reason, as long as you cancel at least 2-3 days before your trip. However, you will only receive reimbursement of up to 50-75% of your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs.

The Cancel For Any Reson upgrade is only available with a short period of your first booking for your trip, typically 14-30 days. It can significantly increase the cost of your policy, by up to 40%, and requires you to insure 100% of your trip costs.
