Standard travel insurance policies do not provide coverage to cancel your trip out of fear of traveling or fear of a potential terrorist attack at your destination.
You may be covered to cancel your upcoming trip to Orlando due to the terrorist attack if you had a policy in place before June 12 and you meet your policy’s requirements for Terrorism coverage. Generally, you may be eligible for coverage if you are traveling to Orlando within 7-30 days of the June 12 terrorist attack.
If you do not meet your policy’s requirements or did not have a policy in place before the attack, you would not be covered to cancel your trip out of fear of a potential terrorist attack unless you have the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade.
The Cancel For Any Reason upgrade allows you to cancel your trip without providing a reason for your cancellation. This upgrade can increase your policy’s premium by 30-50% and comes with some limitations. You must insure 100% of your trip cost, and you will only be reimbursed 50-75% of your trip cost if you cancel for a reason not covered by the standard policy. Cancel For Any Reason also requires you to cancel your trip at least 2-3 days before your departure date.
