I filed a claim online for a forced change of itinerary (trip interruption) that required purchasing new tickets for an excursion. Although the process to submit the claim took a bit of time (lots of questions and documentation to upload), the claim website worked with no problems. After about a month, I received a polite request from an agent for more documentation, and submitted that online. At this point, I was suspecting a runaround for multiple requests for information, as I have experienced with other carriers. However, after a couple more weeks, I was notified online that my claim was approved, and the check was received within the next week. Very satisfied!

I needed to change the date of departure. The snide gentleman I spoke to gave me zero assurance that it was done. Just a verbal “yeah, it’s changed.” I didn’t like that at all. It differed from other companies I’ve used in the past.

Ok first of all I wasn’t able to go on the any of the vacation as suppose to . The reason being was a had a medical issue as have a dr note. I seem to not be getting anywhere withtravelex. I spent a lot of money on this vacation and am looking for something back maybe you can help me. Zurich informed us that your claim was submitted on 11/24/2025. The normal claims processing time is 15 business days after all documentation has been received.

During our trip, there was a disruption caused by TAP Air Portugal. Our originally scheduled flight from Tenerife to Lisbon on September 14, 2025 (Flight TP1127) was cancelled by the airline and rescheduled to the evening of the following day.
As a result of this cancellation, we lost two out of four nights of our stay at Hotel Mundial, Lisbon.
Upon returning home, we filed a claim with our travel insurance company (Zurich Insurance) and provided a copy of the airline’s cancellation notice along with all supporting documents related to our claim for two missed hotel nights and meal expenses totaling $441.00. In total, we submitted 10 documents.
The travel insurance company later informed us that we needed to obtain an official report from TAP Air Portugal specifying the exact reason for the flight cancellation. TAP Air Portugal, however, only provided a generic statement confirming that the original flight was cancelled and replaced with another.
Zurich Insurance subsequently denied our claim for the missed hotel nights, citing our inability to provide an “incident report” from the airline, although they approved and paid the meal portion of our claim.
However, there is no provision in the Zurich Travel Insurance Policy requiring travelers to obtain an “incident report” from the carrier as a condition for coverage in the event of a flight cancellation.
Zurich Travel Claims Administration (“Zurich”) is the claim administrator for the policy you purchased. Travelex does not make claim determinations.
We reached out to Zurich, and they informed us that during the initial assessment of your claim, they did issue payment for the eligible benefits under the Travel Delay Benefit. Unfortunately, the Trip Interruption claim was denied as the loss was not a listed covered event under the Protection Plan you purchased.
Unfortunately, they were unable to consider the Trip Interruption claim as there is no documentation on file to support the interruption was caused by a covered event. Although a report was received and consideration was made under Travel Delay, Zurich does require proof of the reason for the delay in order to determine eligibility under Trip Interruption benefits. Trip Interruption provides coverage for losses associated with the common carrier due to weather, mechanical breakdown of the aircraft, strike or FAA mandate. Zurich informed us that at this time, there is no documentation to support the reason for the loss and as such, the interruption portion of your claim was not considered. Zurich is needing a written statement from TAP Air Portugal regarding Flight TP1127 and why the flight from Tenerife to Lisbon did not fly on September 14, 2025.
Insurance is highly regulated, and all claims are determined based on the documentation submitted.
