Customer service through Travelsafe directly was rude and curt. Their website was also far less helpful than Squaremouth, with unclear directions about how to fill out the application form. I went back and applied through Squaremouth and had a much better experience. I won't have to make a claim, so I can't comment on their actual service.
Trip Mate processes claims for TravelSafe and TripMate has been an absolute nightmare to deal with! Only one CSR has shown any knowledge or understanding. The company obviously looks for every way possible NOT to pay a claim. One of the worst service companies I have ever dealt with.

Totally disappointed - received nothing back. The Certificate indicates "YOU" cancel; however, despite the fact that "I" DID NOT CANCEL the trip, refund was refused.
Had to cancel my trip due to personal family issue. Was not able to get a refund. So they kept my money even though I did not make the trip.

we chose your company based on consumer report. My husband works in the insurance industry and we checked your rating. We read ratings on your company and both my husband and I were very pleased with the claims process. Please note we read reviews from other clients which were very good but o comments regarding the claims aspect. It took approximately 4-5 weeks process. We were never able to go on our trip due a medical situation. However the whole process was very efficient. Customer service was great. Both my husband and I would rather have gone on vacation. However., we would definitely recommend Squaremouth to anyone who is looking for a very good start solid travel insurance.

Travel Safe required an immense amount of documentation in support of the claims I filed (copies of passports showing entry and exit stamps for the country we visited, air receipts, lodging receipts, etc). All of this could be "technically" reasonable and necessary, but we'll see how Travel Safe responds.
For example, they wanted bank or credit card receipts as proof that I paid for a policy with them. Instead, I sent them my receipt from Squaremouth. It should serve the same purpose. Will they accept it...I don't know! We'll see. As a consumer, I was ultimately left with the impression that Travel safe was giving themselves any/all possible pretexts to deny a claim or hassle you, if they so choose. We'll see if they do that. I hope not. I sent them pretty exhaustive and complete claims (no jokes - it took me HOURS to compile the photocopies they requested), And, my claim is SMALL - a $40 (USD) doctors visit, and a lost luggage claim for which they are only a secondary payee, after the airline pays out.
Squaremouth should provide onsite information about how often or not your customers have been able to successfully file claims with an insurer, when filing a claim has been needed. That info seems almost as important as the price of the policy itself, and FYI, I use Squaremouth for all my travel insurance policy purchases.
The claim process takes a long time to process. It took 7 weeks from the time they received my claim to make payment. I felt they required extensive documentation, such as proof that I paid for my trip insurance they issued! A lot of hoop jumping.
NB: Rx meds are not covered, our luggage has been lost/delayed for 7 days and most prescription insurance companies will not cover refills if less than the alotted time.
While it took a couple months, we were reimbursed for the total amount of the claim. We were satisfied with TravelSafe and would recommend.
