Am I covered to cancel my trip if it becomes unsafe to travel to Greece?

Last Updated:

Unfortunately, no. Cancelling your trip due to your destination becoming unsafe, whether or not a travel warning is issued, is not a covered reason within regular Trip Cancellation coverage. If you don’t want to risk traveling because of the current events in Greece, Squaremouth recommends purchasing a policy with the Cancel For Any Reason benefit. This allows you to cancel your trip for any reason at all, and receive a percentage of your prepaid and nonrefundable trip cost back. Within most policies, this percentage is 75%, but can be as low as 50%.

This benefit is time sensitive, and must be purchased within 30 days of making your very first trip payment. Additionally, you must insure 100% of your prepaid and non refundable trip costs, and cancel your trip at least 2-3 days before your scheduled departure. The Cancel For Any Reason benefit typically increases the premium by about 40%.

To find each policies specific eligibility requirements and reimbursement amounts, always refer to the policy certificate as coverage varies between plans.

This information is time sensitive and may change as events unfold. Please check back for updated FAQs and provider position statements.
