What if I’m afraid to fly after the attack at the Istanbul airport?

Last Updated:

Unfortunately, fear of traveling or fear of a potential terrorist attack is not a covered reason to cancel your trip.

If you are flying to Istanbul, you may be covered to cancel your trip due to the June 28 terrorist attack at the Istanbul Airport. You must meet your policy’s requirements to trigger Terrorism coverage. This typically requires your trip to begin within 7-30 days of the attack and to include a stop in or near Istanbul.

If your trip does not meet these requirements, standard travel insurance will not allow you to cover due to a terrorist event, unless you have the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade. Cancel For Any Reason allows you to cancel your trip without providing a reason, as long as you cancel within 2-3 days of your departure date.

Cancel For Any Reason will only reimburse up to 75% of your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs. This upgrade, which is only available within 14-30 days of your first booking, can increase your premium by up to 40% and requires you to insure 100% of your trip costs.

This information is time sensitive and may vary by policy. If you have questions about a specific policy, please contact us directly at 800-240-0369. Our customer service representatives are available 24/7 and are delighted to help.
